Portraits of China
4.18 - 5.25 Ifa Gallery (Shanghai)
A solo exhibition of photography from French photographer Anais Martane. The portraits were taken as Martane travelled widely across China during 2007 documenting the people she encountered along the way. From the young factory worker in Guangdong and psychoanalyst in Chengdu, to the rising rock star in Beijing, each of the characters is captured in his or her own daily environment, whether personal or professional. A text from French journalist Diane Droin-Michaud echoes each of the images, allowing viewers not only to discover more about China but also to slip for an instant into the dreams or observations of each protagonist.
